About OpenHW Lab

OpenHW Lab is an open hardware community. We take idle, retired hardware apart, repurpose and reuse it — and explore the latest smart hardware too. The whole process and the code are open-sourced.
Hobbyists, makers and engineers are all welcome — let's explore more ideas and make tech serve life.

What we do

  • TV-box repurposing: turn dusty Android TV boxes into game consoles, mini PCs, surveillance recorders or print servers.
  • MCU & sensing: small ESP32 / STM32 projects, controllers and sensors.
  • Vision & AI: bring object detection, pose analysis and more onto cheap edge devices.
  • Smart hardware, new ideas: LLM dev boards, robots, drones, unmanned vehicles, smart-home and medical devices.
  • Open community: hobbyists, makers and engineers are all welcome — explore together and make tech serve life.
  • Document & share: every project comes with an illustrated guide and source, so it’s “follow along” easy.

Why open source

  • Hardware shouldn’t be discarded so fast — plenty of devices still have headroom.
  • If one person hits a wall, documenting it saves everyone else the trouble.
  • Open code and guides, free for anyone to reuse, improve and build on.
